Everything that is made by man is designed by someone. When you come across something that is not so good or not so impressive, you might wonder why someone would design such an unattractive stuff. The same holds true for the World Wide Web as well; not everything is super-amazing online. There are plenty of designs which are not very good in looks; and a designer must have designed it that way. Why so?
There can be many reasons. Not everybody is empowered with great web design skills; however, sometimes people come up with extremely minimalistic design purposefully. Even after doing a lot of analysis and research, designers might come up with a very basic design that does not look very engaging.
Usually web designers work hard to make a website great in terms of look and feel; but sometimes, they purposefully walk along the reverse path and create very basic designs. You can call it undesign as well; this is a new trend which has started to pick up and probably it will be here for some time.
Is it a New Trend or something that is going to stay?
The approach is undoubtedly new; but it does not seem to disappear quickly like most of the trends out there. A lot of high profile designers have started following this approach for their own websites. This has kicked off the trend; many other people are working in the same line and coming up with least minimalistic design for their own websites.
It’s not that designers are taking this approach because they do not have time to work for their own websites! Everybody knows how difficult it is to work on own websites after completing all the works for the clients on time; in-house works always go to the backburner as something urgent comes up from the clients. But this time, designers are creating such designs intentionally.
Only time can prove whether this trend will stay here or not – many trends are followed by thousands of people who do not even understand the trend properly. But in this case of undesign or least minimalistic approach, the trend has been started by the expert web designers and has been limited within the experts for some day. If all the web designers start adopting the approach without knowing it properly, the trend might take a new shape; but this is something we have to wait and watch.
Meanwhile, let’s discuss the benefits of undesign or least minimalistic approach.
Easy to Create and Modify: With the least minimalistic approach, it is easy to create new websites and maintain them. Whether you are creating a website from scratch or redesigning an existing website, undesign route will be easier to follow and you can come up with the end-design quickly. On the other hand, creating and maintaining a complex website require more time and effort.
Easy to Make it Responsive: People access websites from different devices these days; hence predicting the size of screen is quite difficult. You have to make your website responsive so that it opens properly on any screen size. Unlike rich interfaces, extreme minimal websites can be converted to responsive design quickly. Hence, this approach satisfies the demand of the day.
Nothing to Boast: If you really do not want to boast; you have such a huge fan-followers’ community that you have nothing to show off, the least minimalistic approach or undesign can be the right thing for you. A complex and engaging interface might look very loud for you.
However, one thing you have to remember here – this approach might not be suitable for the clients. Most of the clients expect rich and engaging interfaces. But when you are designing your own portfolio, least minimalistic approach or undesign route might be the right choice.
